Adding Customers to Sales

Attaching a customer to a sale enables loyalty points, purchase history tracking, and compliance requirements.

Quick Add Customer

Step 1: Click Add Customer

In the POS, click the Add Customer button or press F4.

Step 2: Search for Customer

Search by any of these fields:

  • Name (first or last)
  • Phone number
  • Email address
  • License number

Step 3: Select Customer

Click on the matching customer to attach them to the sale.


Scanning Driver's License

For faster customer lookup, scan the ID barcode:

Step 1: Click Scan Icon

Click the barcode icon next to the customer search field.

Step 2: Scan ID Barcode

Scan the 2D barcode on the back of the driver's license.

Step 3: Automatic Match

The system will:

  1. Parse the ID information (AAMVA format)
  2. Search for matching customer
  3. Auto-select if found
  4. Prompt to create if not found
Supported IDs

GreenPOS supports scanning driver's licenses from all 50 US states that use AAMVA barcode format.


Creating a New Customer

If the customer doesn't exist, create them on the spot:

Step 1: Click "New Customer"

After searching with no results, click Create New Customer.

Step 2: Enter Information

Fill in the required fields:

For Medical Patients

Additional required fields:

  • Patient License Number
  • License Expiration Date

Step 3: Save and Continue

Click Save to create the customer and add them to the sale.


Customer Information Display

Once a customer is attached, you'll see:

  • Name: Customer's full name
  • Type: Medical or Recreational
  • Loyalty Points: Available points balance
  • Tax Status: Tax-exempt indicator for medical
  • Purchase Limits: Daily/monthly limits (if applicable)

Removing a Customer

To remove a customer from the current sale:

  1. Click the X next to the customer name
  2. Confirm removal
  3. Sale continues without customer
Medical Sales

Some states require customer attachment for all sales. Check your local regulations.

  • Medical verification
  • Communication preferences
  • Address for delivery
